ATF Form 4473

Due to Federal law, when purchasing firearms from a Federally Licensed dealer (FFL), customers must present a valid, non-expired government issued photo ID and govermental proof of your current address. To purchase a handgun, firearm receiver (AR lower, pistol frame), or "other firearm" (Mossberg Shockwave, AR or Thompson pistol over 26" long w/ a Vertical Forward Grip), you will need to be over 21 and a current resident of Texas. To purchase a complete shotgun (shoulder stock w/ 18" or longer bbl) or rifle, you need to be over 18, and not a resident of California (sorry, your state makes it impossible for us to sell you guns). Please note, the 21 year & ID rules do not apply to private sales between Texas residents, but they do apply when dealing with a FFL.

Typical ID examples are:

Current Driver License with current address;

Texas License To Carry with current address;

Texas Identification Card, though we may ask you why you don't have a driver license and to read the disqualifying questions carefully;

US Passport, although you will need further proof of your current address;

Government document of some sort showing your current address - this could be a property tax statement, state vehicle registration, or city water bill - not a bank statement, electric bill, etc - must be government issued;

Resident aliens will need to show me their Resident Alien card - it must be current;

Non-resident aliens will likely show me your passport and a current Texas Hunting License that has your current address.

If your Texas Driver License or ID doesn't have your correct address, don't fret. We'll log on to https://txapps.texas.gov/tolapp/txdl/ and update your driver license information. There will be a fee, and you will need to have a valid debit or credit card to pay that fee, and know the correct billing address for that card. You can do the same thing from home before you come, just make sure you can print out your now valid temporary driver license and bring the paper copy with you. While cops might take your temporary driver license information from your phone, we do require the paper. If you are not a Texas resident but your license is expired, or recently moved to Texas and don't yet have a Texas ID yet, we're very sorry, but we can't help you until you have one of the examples listed above or in the instructions on the 4473. If you do have a question about your ID, the 4473, or the NICS process, please wait until we come out of the men's room to ask. For every rule, there is someone that rule was invented for...

Once we have your current, valid ID in hand, we'll enter you in our computer, along with the county or parish you live in, and your current telephone number. If you get a Delay, it's rather important we can call you when your Proceed comes through so you can come pick up your firearm.

If you have a Texas LTC and are a Texas Resident, then there is no need whatsoever to put your "Social Security" number on the 4473. If you do not have a Texas LTC, and have a relatively common name such as Smith or Rodriguez, we do suggest putting your SNN down.

Speaking of corrections, if you sign your portion and your height is off by an inch according to your driver license, not a problem - we just have to fill out the whole form again. Also, please spell all your names the same way the government does - because if you don't, you guessed it... It also helps if you note your gender correctly... Please do not enter your driver license number in the UPIN field. If you have a UPIN, you know what it is, proceed accordingly.

Please, fill out the 4473 with the exact data as is indicated on your government issued documents. Please indicate if you are feeling Hispanic or not today, AND what race you feel like currently. Both questions must be answered. Also, while you are welcome to indicate your gender is non-binary, that must be reflected on your identifying documents. However, because we are unfit for woke corporate America and thus choose to work for ourselves, we will ask uncomfortable questions, or hillarious ones, depending on your perspective. Please don't be thin-skinned and non-binary, you're in Texas, grow a pair.

We regret if you answer any of the disqualifying questions incorrectly and sign your portion of the form, we will not be able to continue the transaction.
